Kirsten Powers Bio

Kirsten Powers was born December 14 1967 in Fairbanks, Alaska, USA. She is well-known for her work on Anderson Cooper 360deg (2003) and America's Newsroom (2007) and CNN Newsroom (1989). Marty Makary was her first husband. As the deputy assistant U.S Trade Representative for Public Affairs, she served as Vice-President International Communications at America Online. In the following years, she was Vice-President for the AOL-Time Warner Foundation. Her ex-husband Dr. Marty Makary, is a Professor of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. Her brother is an educator. His daughter was born in 2006. Former press secretary for Andrew Cuomo's campaign for governor. Powers has been active with New York State Democratic politics since a long time. She was a member of the staff of the New York State Democratic Committee as well as the press secretary for the Andrew Cuomo for Governor campaign and the communications director for the mayoral campaign of C. Virginia Fields. She also worked on the "Vote No on 3" campaign, which defeated New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's ballot initiative to end primary elections for the party. Powers was also briefly the press secretary for Donnie Fowler's failed campaign to become the Democratic National Committee (DNC) chair. Powers has also worked as a consultant for many non-profit groups, including Human Rights First, the National Council for Research on Women (NCRW) and Donnie Fowler's unsuccessful bid to become Democratic National Committee (DNC) chair.
