Summer Bishil Bio

Summer Bishil was raised in Pasadena (California). Her family relocated to the United States when she was only three years old. Summer was a student at British and American schools as her family lived overseas, she returned to her home town of Pasadena just a few days shy of her birthday of 14. Summer was only five years old when she discovered her passion for acting. She enrolled in her first acting class. Nine months later, she got an agent as well as a manager and began to follow her dream full-time. She attends college in weekends, and works towards her degree. She was one of the stars who were young in Vanity Fair's August 2008 cover article, "Hollywood’s New Wave: Hollywood's Most Hot Kids in Hollywood". Bishil began taking acting lessons when she was 14. In just one year Bishil was offered a contract by a manager or agency. Bishil was initially seen in the Nickelodeon television show Just for Kicks. She then appeared in several other children's shows. In 2007, she was the lead actress in Alan Ball's film Towelhead which was a re-imagining of his novel. Dana Stevens, a critic for Slate she said that Bishil's performance was "the most genuine thing" in the film which had the best intentions, but made it feel fake and somewhat embarrassing. It was similar to an extended PSA about inappropriate touching. Bob Strauss writes for many Los Angeles newspapers and states that Bishil "...is one of the best natural film actresses ever. In a September 12 Los Angeles Times review, Gary Goldstein stated that Summer Bishil, a "...newcomer performs an intense and thrilling performance in the role of Jasira. She filmed Wayne Kramer’s Crossing Over project in 2009 which starred Harrison Ford and Ray Liotta. Jay Reiner of the Associated Press liked her portrayal. She was cast as Azula in M. Night Shyamalan's film The Last Airbender (2010). The sequel never produced.
