Thora Birch

Thora Birch, born March 11 1982, is an American actress. In 1988 she made her film debut in the film Purple People Eater. For this role, she received a Young Artist Award as "Best Young Actress Under Nine Years of Age". Birch became a cult an infant, appearing in films like All I Want for Christmas (1991), Patriot Games (92), Hocus Pocus (93), Monkey Trouble (1994), Now and Then (1995) and Alaska (1996). In 1999, she was nominated for a BAFTA nomination. In 2001, she was nominated as Best Actress for Ghost World. Birch was also nominated for an Emmy Award in 2003 for her performance as the main character in Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray Story. Her other films include Dungeons & Dragons (2000), The Hole (2001), Silver City (2004), Dark Corners (2006), Winter of Frozen Dreams (2009) and Petunia (2012).After taking an absence from acting, Birch was back in the spotlight in the year 2016 and has since starred in a variety of independent films. Birch was also in the role of Whisperer Mary/ Gamma on The Walking Dead's Season 10. Birch was born in Los Angeles, the eldest child of Jack Birch and Carol Connors. Birch is German-Jewish, Scandinavian and French-Canadian ancestry.  The name of her mother, Thora, comes from the Norse god of thunder and lightning "Thor" and would be her name when she was a boy. She has a younger brothernamed Kian Bolt Birch.Birch's parents were former film actors who both participated in the film Deep Throat. They were reluctant to encourage Thora due to their previous experience in the entertainment business. But the babysitter noticed Thora imitating commercials and convinced them to show Thora’s photo to agents. Birch's first big break came at age four when her babysitter took her to auditions for an Quaker Oats commercial.
