Ava DuVernay born August 24 72 years old in Long Beach, CA. DuVernay was encouraged to pursue her love of the arts by her aunt Denise when she was a child. After graduating she attended an institution called the University of California Los Angeles which she graduated with degrees in English as well as African American studies. DuVernay began producing television news at the age of a young student. She started as an intern with CBS News, during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay was told to look at the trash of a jury member's home. Her work left her dissatisfied in journalism, so she made the decision to go into the field of publicity. DuVernay began her professional career as a junior publicity assistant at a small film studio following her graduation from college. In this role, she launched her own PR company named The DuVernay Agency in 1999. Alongside PR, her agency also created a variety of marketing and lifestyle platforms, such as the Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective, Urban Eye and HelloBeautiful.
